About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians with Boz Scaggs at the time) as well as bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from the Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back was a complete failure However, they resurface with their fourth album Isolation that features two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour established them as a brand around the world.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is an departure from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. The album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and is put in financial difficulty. They decide to record a new album and change their name to an entirely different producer. Lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and provides the band with a much-needed boost.
The band releases Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they come to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa during the recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest, as well as keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

Toto reunited for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in more than 31 years that all of Toto's original members were on stage together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
